Shore Crab

Shore Crab

The shore crab is one of the most common crustaceans found along the Thames Estuary. With its broad, flattened carapace and powerful claws, it is perfectly adapted to life in intertidal zones. Shore crabs are opportunistic feeders, consuming a variety of small marine organisms, detritus, and even algae. Around Southend Pier, they are often spotted under rocks or scuttling along the mudflats during low tide. Their adaptability and abundance make them easy to spot for keen-eyed explorers.
