Grey Seal
Grey seals are larger than common seals and can also be found in the Thames Estuary. These seals are identifiable by their long, straight snouts and mottled grey or brown coats. They feed on a variety of fish, crustaceans, and squid, often diving to depths of up to 100 meters to hunt.
Around Southend Pier, grey seals are less commonly seen than common seals but may occasionally appear near mudflats or in open water. Their size and distinctive shape make them easier to spot when they are present.
