Barnacles
Barnacles are small crustaceans that attach themselves to rocks, pier pilings, and other hard surfaces. They filter-feed by extending feathery appendages to capture plankton from the water.
Barnacles are common around Southend Pier and are most visible at low tide, clinging to submerged pier piles. Their resilience and abundance make them an essential part of the marine ecosystem.
