About the Event

IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM SOUTHEND LUMINOCITY *** Due to the incoming Storm Eunice, we've regrettably had to take the difficult decision to pause Southend LuminoCity for one night only on Friday 18 February. Anticipated gusts of up to 70mph are forecast and we can take no chances with safety issues relating to the installations. The festival will go ahead as planned on Thursday 17 February and with the wind speeds then anticipated to reduce, the festival will resume for the final day on Saturday 19 February. ***

A trail of incredible art installations will light up Southend-on-Sea this year as part of the first ever Southend LuminoCity Festival of Light, bringing four dazzling nights of fun to the soon-to-be City.

Large-scale light installations will pop up at iconic landmarks in and around the town centre and seafront in February 2022, thanks to the Southend Tourism Partnership, and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, including Southend Pier!

We are very pleased to host 'House of Cards' - a monumental light and sound installation is made up of 125 oversized playing cards that feature original compositions from international artists from previous installations. Colourful and radiant during the day, the cards’ crisp white lines and colourful images will dazzle, but the installation is transformed into a choreographed light show at night. The cards are illuminated with an animated program that creates the illusion of the House of Cards rising, collapsing, and being rebuilt again.

Please note normal pier admission prices apply before 6pm, but the installation is best viewed after dark. Just £1 per person to walk the world’s longest pleasure pier!
