Southend has two of the busiest stations in the country! One is the inshore boathouse and the other is the offshore boathouse at the end of Southend Pier.

Since 1879 the Lifeboat crews of Southend have saved over 2000 lives! Working alongside the flank stations, Sheerness and Gravesend, the crew at Southend provide coverage for the ever increasing amount of river usage in the Thames estuary. ​ Pop into the Gift Shop in the Pier Head boathouse, where you'll find a wide selection of toys, models, stationary, clothing and accessories, games, badges, books, postcards, key rings, kitchen ware and many other interesting things. All proceeds go towards running the charity. The shop also has a public viewing gallery into the Pier Head boathouse where two of the four Southend lifeboats operate from.
